THE first of 80 massive modules bound for Curtis Island sailed across the harbour yesterday.

The six-pipe rack modules were the first of the Asian exports to arrive in Gladstone, which will assist construction on the QCLNG project.

Bechtel's Gladstone operations manager Kevin Berg said the pipes would be used to form part of the structure to transport gas from the tanks to the jetty.

"Eighteen months of engineering, design and planning has gone into the construction of the modules to make sure they meet Australian standard and project quality requirements," Mr Berg said.

This marks the first of 80 modules to be delivered for the planned large scale LNG projects.
