Gladstone ice addict pleads guilty to range of charges

A GLADSTONE carpenter who let a friend smoke ice at his home shrugged aside the drug offending, simply saying to police that "what she does is her business".

However, it was the dozen breaches of his bail conditions committed when Jeorez Breslin failed to report regularly to the police that Magistrate Penelope Hay flagged as being more serious offences.

Breslin, 35, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to possession of the drug ice (.3 grams of methylamphetamine) and glass pipes used to smoke dangerous drugs at South Gladstone on November 11; permitting his house to be used for a drug offence; possession of ice at Glen Eden on January 13, and a series of bail breaches during December and January including Christmas Day.

He also pleaded guilty to breaking curfew conditions by being absent from his residence between 6pm and 6am.

Prosecutor Sgt Barry Stevens said Breslin told police he permitted the woman to smoke ice at his house and it was her business.

He said police had also gone to Breslin's house several times in a curfew check and found him not home, in one instance at 3am.

On January 13 police stopped a car Breslin was a passenger in at Glen Eden and an officer saw him put his hands beneath the seat.

A search found 16 clip seal bags under the seat and one bag contained a small quantity of ice.

Sgt Stevens said Breslin told police he simply forgot to attend at the police station as required in his bail conditions.

Defence lawyer Jun Pepito said Breslin had been introduced to drugs at a party in 2015 and made the mistake of not telling police he was moving to another house.

He then failed to report and because he feared being jailed over Christmas continued not to report until his arrest.

Ms Hay said his prior criminal offending was very minor and nuisance related, however, there had been a change in his offending since being introduced to drugs which was founded in his addiction.

Ms Hay found him to be genuinely upset and sorry over the matters, telling him he could have avoided all this trouble by reporting.

Breslin had been in custody five days and was sentenced to two months jail immediately suspended for 18 months for the breaches.

He must take part in drug counselling.
