Heron Island water crisis
HOLIDAY makers at Heron Island had limited amounts of fresh drinking water after the resort's desalination plant stopped working yesterday.
More than 150 guests at the resort, 72 kilometres off the coast of Gladstone, were left to drink bottled water after the desalination plant experienced a mechanical failure yesterday afternoon.
Resort managers have advised guests they are welcome to leave the island in the next few days.
Heron Island resort spokesperson said guests in up to six rooms had expressed an interest to leave the island today.
Guests will have their cancellation fees waived.
It's believed the mechanical failure at the desalination plant will be fixed on Tuesday, with fresh drinking water being transported to the island today.
Up to 140,000 litres of fresh drinking water will be transported to the resort via a barge tomorrow.
The spokesperson said guests were happy to stay at the resort and wait for water supplies to arrive.
More to come.
