GLADSTONE'S quest for affordable housing has received a major boost.

In an Australian-first, three LNG proponents, Australia Pacific LNG, GLNG and QGC's Queensland Curtis LNG Project, have signed a landmark $19.8 million funding agreement to formally create Gladstone Affordable Housing (GAH), a not-for-profit company specifically structured to help respond to the shortage of affordable housing in the Gladstone region.

GAH has looked certain to go ahead for several months, but yesterday's announcement is the first time the project has officially received the money. The agreement also provides for a loan of $3.2 million to the Urban Land Development Authority to fast-track a development at Hill Close.
