Fatality from recklessness
A MOTORCYCLIST has lost his life after a crash on the Dawson Hwy yesterday.
The 40-year-old Moura man was attempting to overtake a number of cars when one of the vehicles turned right into a driveway and collided with him.
The crash took place around 9am on a stretch of highway about 2km west of Calliope.
The man was alive when emergency services arrived on the scene.
Police and QAS performed CPR however the man died shortly after.
Sergeant Michael Despot said the incident was a devastating way to wrap up the May Day long weekend holiday.
"This is a tragic set of events whereby a motorcyclist has done the wrong thing and lost his life as a result," he said.
The driver of the car, a Gold Coast man in his twenties, was taken to Gladstone Hospital to be treated for shock.
He and his male passenger were in Gladstone studying mobile phone coverage.
"Everybody involved in the event is traumatised," Sgt Despot said.
"Unfortunately this sort of thing happens way too often.
"Today we are seeing increased traffic flow as a number of people are returning from holiday.
"Bloody slow down and take your time. Get home alive," he said.
Investigations are continuing.
