QUEENSLAND Alumina Limited's apprentices are so good this year their supervisors couldn't choose just one apprentice of the year.

Instead, they chose a top apprentice in two of the streams offered - electrical and mechanical.

Twenty-year-old Nat Davis took out the electrical apprentice of the year award while Dan Manning, also 20, took out the award for mechanical apprentice of the year.

Ms Davis said it was a late decision to go into industry when she finished school, but she enjoyed going out with tradespeople and working on the instruments.

Mr Manning finished his four-year apprenticeship last week and said his opportunities were endless.

"Being a fitter and turner I could go anywhere," he said.
