Council plans Youth Week events
THE Gladstone region was bustling with excitement at the weekend as National Youth Week got off to a fabulous start.
National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia and thousands of youth aged between 12-25 across the country take part each year.
To celebrate, the Gladstone Regional Council joined forces with industry and community groups to develop an awesome calendar of events for young people across the region to enjoy.
There was a huge range of events lined up this week.
One of these is the Save a Mate Program, on today at the Community Advisory Service.
Red Cross community development officer Anne Meehan will facilitate the two-hour program for about 20 young people.
The hands-on session informs young people on how to best handle a drug- or alcohol-related emergency.
"It's aimed at educating young people on how to recognise signs of overdose and heatstroke," Anne said.
The program hopes to convey to young people the importance of looking after your mates, yourself and minimising risks.
All National Youth Week activities are drug and alcohol free events.
