Council demands meeting with state over Arrow LNG plant

GLADSTONE Regional Council is demanding a meeting with the Coordinator-General, Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government, to tell them the region is getting a raw deal from Arrow LNG's plant proposal.

However, councillors concede the meeting won't achieve anything, after the State Government approved Arrow's Supplementary Environmental Impact Statement last month.

On Tuesday the council registered disgust at 33 areas of concern ignored in Arrow's SEIS.

Mayor Gail Sellers said the council was frustrated by the legacy left by the LNG developments, claiming a lack of social infrastructure when compared to other resource projects in the region.

She also noted the council did not get the $175,000 requested from Arrow to help fund scrutiny of the SEIS.

GLNG, APLNG, and QCLNG each contributed $150,000 for the work.

Cr Sellers conceded a meeting would probably achieve very little, saying it would be symbolic, with the three cabinet members able to take on board the council's gripes directly.

"If we're not going to get a result out of it for the Gladstone region projects, we can achieve change for the rest of Queensland," Cr Sellers said.
