BY day he's managing the Goondoon St carwash, but several nights a week Michael Connolly is standing on stage giving all he's got in song and dance.

Mr Connolly will be channelling his best Russian Jewish impersonation to sing If I Were A Rich Man, most famed solo from Fiddler on the Roof, in the Gladstone Performing Arts Company's latest production.

"My main objective is to do it as entrteainingly as possible because the character requires it," he said.

Mr Connolly said as an amateur trying to do something that's been done by many before, "I just want to do it to my best."

"If I can channel the Jewish farmer I'm doing well," he laughed, admitting he's watched the movie about 15 times.

"Don't worry, I won't be giving up my day job," he said.

"I really enjoy being part of a really creative group of people."

Musicals Through the Decades will treat the audience to a variety show of musical classics.
