Plans for Calliope sports park move forward

PLANS for a new sports ground at Calliope are moving forward.

Gladstone Regional Council approved the development application for Liz Cunningham Park at its general meeting on Tuesday.

The 48.9ha Racecourse Rd park will have soccer facilities with two full-size football fields and a full-size cricket and multi-purpose oval.

A 281sqm clubhouse, with eight showers, five bathrooms, administration facilities and 140 parking spaces, will be built under stage one.

The council is developing the facility and has allocated $2million in its current budget for the park.

Parks and Recreation portfolio spokesman Graham McDonald said the park would ease the over-use of Bunting Park.

He said this would allow Calliope's rugby league fraternity and other sports to grow.
