Safety fence not in great shape after constant battering

IF IT is there, chances are it will be vandalised.

Okay, maybe that is an exaggeration, especially in Gladstone, where vandalism is not a major problem, but this certainly looks like damage for the sake of damage.

People who travel on Glenlyon Rd will have noticed a fence designed to keep pedestrians off the road near PCYC and the new McDonald's restaurant has been severely damaged in recent months.

It seems to have progressively worsened.

On each panel, it looks as though some genius has kicked the fence and caused massive dents.

Perhaps it was a phenomenon like the ape in Space Odyssey 2001 realising it can bang something really hard to get a result.

As if that wasn't bad enough, a driver recently smashed into the fence at night, leaving a massive hole.

The fence belongs to the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

It was built as a safety measure this year as a condition of the new McDonald's restaurant on Glenlyon Rd to stop pedestrians walking across the road.

"The department recently received advice of the damage and is working with the local maintenance contractor to replace/reinstate the fencing as soon as possible," a department spokesperson said.
