UPDATE 10.30pm: Gladstone police, homicide detectives and SES volunteers spent yesterday searching bushland where a 38-year-old Bundaberg woman's body was discovered.
Detective Inspector Cal Lynch said the body was located inside a vehicle in bushland in Clinton on Saturday evening.
"The woman's body was located inside a silver 1999 model Kia Sportage, approximately 200 metres from the intersection of Col Brown Ave and Don Young Dv," Insp Lynch said.
He said the woman had been a Gladstone resident previously and had only recently returned to the region.
Police were still attempting to contact the woman's next of kin yesterday.
"We believe at this stage the woman's parents reside in South America," Insp Lynch said.
Police have set up an investigation centre in Gladstone and a range of detectives and specialists have been engaged.
"The area is frequented by the community for recreational purposes including walking, fishing and motorcycle riding," Insp Lynch said.
"There are likely to have been a number of community members in the area over the weekend."
Insp Lynch said the woman's body had been flown to Rockhampton where a post mortem would be conducted.
