THE current government isn't spending enough money or attention on biosecurity issues.

This was the opinion of Federal Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd and Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Food Security John Cobb, who were in Gladstone yesterday after a two-day tour of the region.

"We went to talk to the cattle famers, the cane growers and other horticulturists, to get their feedback," Mr Cobb said. "Everyone is worried about quarantine and biosecurity."

Mr O'Dowd said producers of pineapples and ginger were particularly concerned about overseas imports.

"We don't want any rare diseases to come in and knock our industry about," he said.
