Bearded posties ride across country for kids' charity

TWO friends are taking their postie bikes - and their beards - across Australia to raise funds for child rights organisation Save the Children.

Phil Cerbu, 23, and Anthony Tutuian, 20, are on the home stretch of their adventure-packed, 36-day, 8000km trip through the heart of Australia.

That has included enduring about 3000km of dirt roads along the way.

The long-time friends will travel through Gladstone on Saturday before heading south through Bundaberg and Noosa.

The duo has dedicated the trip to raising funds for Save the Children, which works in more than 100 locations around Australia and 120 countries worldwide providing education, health and protection for vulnerable children.

"It's a cliché but children really are the future," Phil said.

"I've been touched by Save the Children's great work internationally but they do amazing work in Australia, too - like helping families recover after the Queensland floods earlier this year."

The pair hopes to arrive in Brisbane on July 19.
