TANNUM Sands' crime fighting just became a lot more mobile, thanks to the arrival of a new, police All Terrain Vehicle.

Senior Sergeant Tony Poli, officer in charge of Tannum Sands station, said the fully equipped quad bike would enable officers to patrol previously inaccessible areas and assist in search-and-rescue operations.

"It'll be used to patrol parklands, bikeways, the esplanade and public beaches, as a deterrent to property offences," Snr Sgt Poli said.

Cr Maxine Brushe said there had been a desire for some time to provide officers with a more mobile means of transport.

"This (ATV) just lets them go even further afield," she said.

Public feedback has been fantastic.
