EDNA Fry is 82 years old, but just because she had not heard of Lyme Disease did not mean she didn't believe it existed.
"I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to assist," she said.
"Until I came to this nursing home I had never heard of Lyme Disease, then I met a beautiful young lady working here who has the disease."
Mrs Fry is a staunch believer in helping those who need it.
Lyme Disease sufferers need awareness more than anything, and so she has picked up her crocheting hooks and began to make butterflies.
"I choose butterflies as a symbol of hope for people with Lyme Disease," she said.
When asked why she has laboured so much for the cause, the mother of seven is quick to respond.
"To raise money to make people aware of the disease and hope by helping to raise awareness that a lot more research can be encouraged into the disease."
May has been Lyme Awareness Month and supporters at New Auckland Place have raised $4500.
