Police called as banned teen turns up at school formal

POLICE were called to the Gladstone State High School formal on Tuesday night after banned student Jaimi-Lee Langerak attempted to crash the party.

Gladstone Police said the school called police about 6pm, after the 17-year-old was seen stepping out of a stretch Hummer in her formal dress.

Two crews and one plain-clothed police crew were at the scene, but police said they did not interact with the girl.

Jaimi-Lee's mother, Mandy Langerak, said her daughter made an appearance at the event, but left shortly after getting photos with her partner.

"All Jaimi did was get out of the limo, pose for photos on the red carpet and then leave with me," Ms Langerak said.

Gladstone Police Sgt Wayne Butcher said police had an agreement with Gladstone schools to

monitor the activity outside venues during school formal season.

"Police were called just in case there was a disturbance," Sgt Butcher said.

"There was no police interaction at all."

Sgt Butcher said Jaimi-Lee could have been charged with public nuisance or trespass if she stepped foot on the premises.

Last week the Year 12 student was told she could not attend the school's end-of-year celebration after she accumulated too many unexplained absences.

Queensland Department of Education regional director Wayne Butler said security officers were present at the event, as per usual protocols.

"The Queensland Police Service was called for advice, and attended only as a precaution," Mr Butler said.
