A century in region
IT HAS been 100 years since the Chapman family first settled on their property south-west of Calliope.
Helen and Bruce Chapman, who have begun to research their family history, said Charles and Sophia Chapman were the first to settle on the property in July 1912 with dairy cattle.
The house the family lived in today was built in 1938 but the original homestead was "a really old Queenslander thing" which was cut up and taken into Gladstone.
In celebration of the family's historic anniversary more then 200 people gathered at the cattle farm on April 21.
Mrs Chapman said a big mix of people turned up to mark the occasion.
"We had friends, family and industry people," she said.
