THE Federal Government's inquiry into the failure of a bund wall to retain dredged spoils in Gladstone Harbour has been given an extra month to review evidence.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt on Monday said he had agreed to extend the reporting timeframe for the review after the panel asked for the extension.
He said co-chairs Anthea Tinney and Dr Andrew Johnson said the volume of information to be reviewed and "background work required" meant an extra month was needed.
"Carrying out the review promptly is important, but what's more important is getting it right," Mr Hunt said in a statement.
"I therefore feel that the panel should be given the time needed to answer the important questions regarding the performance of the bund wall in Gladstone harbour."
Mr Hunt also said the panel had visited Gladstone to talk to the Gladstone Ports Corporation and "other local stakeholders".
However, he did not shed any further light on when the public submissions already received would be released to the public.
