THE night was anything but silent at the Coral Coast Christian Church when huge numbers of people turned out to celebrate Christmas with an evening of carolling.

Pastor Brian Robertson said between 700 and 800 people had attended Saturday night's carols.

"It went really well," he said. "We had really pleasant weather. The on stage performance was very good."

Mr Robertson said the nativity scene was a hit with the only downside to the evening being the cancellation of fireworks due to the risk of fire.

"We wanted to be on the safe side," he said.

The pastor said performers from the church provided entertainment during the evening, including several vocalists, a drummer, guitarists, a keyboard player and brass instrument musicians.
