1600 sign to save our office

MAURICE Paterson wanted to run the Australia Post Business Centre on Chapple St as a private franchise.

But it just wasn't viable as the cost to buy the business was too much.

The business owner said the closure of the over-the-counter service had been a real hassle for him.

"It's a drain on resources," he said.

"We have to go to South Gladstone or the Valley now - it's cost me time and money."

Mr Paterson signed the petition Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd presented to Parliament on March 1.

Mr O'Dowd called Australia Post's decision to shut the centre down "short sighted".

His hope: "To reverse this poor decision and return the post office to its original status."

THE PETITION

1676 signatures

Was supported by Gladstone Regional Council Mayor Gail Sellers, State MP Liz Cunningham and Federal MP Ken O'Dowd
